Enlightenment is a term that is often associated with a number of scenarios. Generally, people want to feel enlightened when they discover a new element within their monotonous day-to-day or may spark an enlightened mindset when they learn something new and exciting. While we may all use the term “enlightened” frequently, the idea behind enlightenment within Buddhism and its culture is much bigger.

The story goes something like this. One day, Buddha was seated under the Bodhi tree – the tree of awakening to be more specific. Siddhartha, his name before he became Buddha, became heavily absorbed in meditation. His reflected on his life’s experiences penetrated the truth and aided him in achieving Enlightenment.
