Dear Selina (not your real name, of course):

I spoke with you recently about your career situation, and specifically, your hopes for self-employment. I would like to add some further details to that conversation.

I know that under current conditions it can seem like you’re caught in a spin cycle of jobs that you’d rather not do, or frankly, jobs that just aren’t quite good enough for you or a good fit. There’s a lot of that going around. Some politicians like to make a big deal about how low unemployment is, but the truth is that we are all working harder for less pay than we did in previous years. So naturally, as you had mentioned, self-employment sounds appealing.

But this isn’t something that everyone can do, at least not successfully. The sense of freedom is awesome, but the first time you realize that you don’t get paid vacations or sick days, and that slow business means less money? It gets scary fast.

Fortunately, I do think that you’re really well equipped for it. The ruler of the Sixth House in your chart (which rules work habits) in Virgo and your Sun conjunct Mercury in the Sixth House as well, tells me that you have the drive and organizational skills to pull it off. And a Tenth House ruled by Uranus? That just about shouts “self-employment”, doesn’t it? That and just as importantly (I believe), the specific idea you have are both an excellent fit for your skill-set and is in an area that is expected to be a growth industry in future. Well played!

There are two things that, as an astrologer, I would like to point out to you. One is obvious, and one is something many astrologers forget, even when doing a reading.

First of all, yes: there is no denying that the Saturn-Pluto conjunction on your Midheaven is going to make work conditions difficult for you. You’re going to be dealing with the effects of that well into 2021… but I don’t want you to think that that means your work life is going to be totally screwed up throughout this whole time.

This could actually be a time of significant breakthroughs with you as far as your career choices go. Also, let’s not forget that Saturn conjunct the Midheaven, in your case, means that the ruler of the Midheaven is going to be conjunct the Midheaven… That sounds helpful, doesn’t it? This particular transit hits its peak in January of 2020. My advice? Lay the groundwork in advance and I believe that’s when Saturn will pull through, with things really starting to get off the ground for your idea.

Secondly, astrologers often forget that even after a transit has completed its effects can linger. If a particular transit means that today your foot is going to get run over then, even if that transit is over tomorrow, you’ll still have a broken foot. In that light, let’s look at 2016.

In 2016, as you know Selina, your career path went off the rails. That entire year, transiting Saturn was passing over your natal Uranus. With Uranus being the ruler of your 10th house, what else could we expect? Even though that transit is long over, it seems you’ve been wobbling ever since. But hey, look at this: transiting Jupiter is in that same spot now!

So: here is my advice to you. Now (and over the next four months) is an excellent time for you to gather data about how you can find financing. See if you can find sponsors. Check out government grants. Maybe look into some micro-financing websites.

Then, get ready for 2021. Something tells me it’s going to be an excellent year for you.
