MontelAmericaLarge.pngThis morning I had the delightful experience of guesting on Montel Across America with Montel Williams. He has done the most remarkable job of maintaining his health in the face of MS; it was a real honor to talk with him and provide the “Living Well Tip of the Day” that always closes his show. I chose “Enliven Your Diet” from Living a Charmed Life. It’s the idea of eating fresh, unprocessed and uncooked, vegan food for at least 50%, ideally 75% or more, of one’s diet. Starting slow is fine. Nobody has to be perfect. It’s about building up to taking in the best fuel you can provide for yourself.

Here are the tips from Living a Charmed Life:
  • Start the day fresh — fresh juice in the a.m.
  • Blend enlivening elixirs — luscious smoothies, ideally with greens (romaine, spinach, kale) added. Montel actually markets a super-blender that’s half the price of other high-powered blenders. It’s called The Health Master Emusifier and I’m impressed with what I’ve seen. If you’ve tried it, let me know what you think.
  • Create super salads and shoot for two a day.
  • Learn a few raw recipes — there are plenty of them free online.
  • Bring on the reinforcements — carry a piece of fruit, dried fruit bar, or flax crackers with you if lunch turns out to be meager or you just get hungry.
  • Don’t get cold — during the winter (or under siege of air-conditioning), avoid ice-cold foods and beverages; use warming spices like cayenne and ginger; and drink antioxidant green tea or a satisfying herbal such a licorice
  • Go ‘live ’till 5′ — see if several days a week you can stick with fruit, salads, juices, smoothies, nuts and seeds for breakfast and lunch, and enjoy raw and cooked foods for dinner.
Bottom line: at least one big-o salad and three pieces of fresh fruit every day, so help you God.
For extra fun, learning, and fabulosity, I’ve signed up for the Raw Divas 7-Day Detox. The Divas, Tera and Keely, based in Wyoming and Quebec respectfully, have a snazzy/jazzy site for ladies who have an interest in raw food. The 7-Day Detox is free, starts whenever you like, and includes a nice little e-book, journal pages, daily e-mails, and access to the Raw Divas’ “Power Room” where you can connect with other divas-in-the making. I’ll keep you posted….
