I was in a creative writing class in Grade 10. We wrote short stories and handed them around so that everyone could read them and then discuss them. For the most part, it was pretty much a grade 10 level of writing we were doing — and I include myself in that. One day, there was one particular story going around that was causing laughter to break out whenever anyone finished it.

When the story provoking this reaction got to me I was really looking forward to it. Not much happened in the story. Basically, it was a young man and a young woman getting to know each other and it ended with them gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes, and promising they would be together forever.

That wasn’t the funny part. The funny part was that some other kid had written this, at the bottom of the last page: “AND THEN SOMEONE YELLED ‘LOOK OUT FOR THE FIRE!’ AND THEY DIED.”

What’s this have to do with the upcoming Solar Eclipse at 29 Aries, which is exact shortly after midnight Eastern time on the 20th?

SURPRISE!: Like the last sentence of the story I told you about, there was a surprise ending. Eclipses can bring surprises too… and I think that’s what makes a lot of people fear the effects of an Eclipse. If you’re like that, let me remind you that not all surprises are bad ones. Sure, the author of the story I told you about was not thrilled, but the rest of us thought it was hilarious.

YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY: Most of us laughed, but some more than others. Me? I can still laugh about it. Likewise: say “Eclipses bring surprises,” focus on what House in your birth chart the Eclipse falls in. That’s where the surprise is most likely to happen, as well as any major aspects to other points in your chart.

POSSIBLY INAPPROPRIATE LAUGHTER: This Eclipse is conjunct Jupiter, which will probably make its general effects more boisterous, bigger, or ka-boomy-er.

TRIGGER WARNING: If you worry too much about Eclipses, you are likely to seek out and find astrologers who (knowingly or otherwise) are feeding that. Please, Dear Reader… don’t do that to yourself. I want the best for you.

So there you have it. With Eclipses? Be aware and don’t be afraid.

Next time: The May 5th Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Maybe.
