Also known as: The House of Home, the Foundation

What it rules in your life: This is the base of The Houses, and represents your roots, your home, and one of your parents (traditionally but not always, the Mother). It also represents the conditions under which you find peace and restoration, where and how you are comfortable, and the actual physical and mental environment where you like to collapse, both literally and figuratively. That’s right: it’s the House that rules “your house.”

Placed as it is at the “bottom” of the chart people often have a tendency to overlook its value in the birth chart… that is, unless you’re fishing around looking for/at “parental issues.”

(No matter what transits are happening, how they play out in your life depends on your individual birth chart. Write me with your date, time, and place of birth — and I’ll send you a copy and a free sneak preview!)

What it rules in an organization or mundane chart: the actual physical properties the organization owns or is housed in.

How the placement of the ruler affects it:

Ruler of the Fourth House in the First: Your urge to care for and cherish people is obvious to everyone. You emotional connections are particularly important to you, and you may have a hard time hiding your feelings or security issues.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Second House: There is a strong possibility of working from home, or trying to make money from there. The condition of your home often unconsciously mirrors your self-esteem.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Third House: You may have trouble sorting out objective facts from your feelings about things. There is often an interest in cooking, home crafts, family history, or genealogy.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Fourth House: You have a particular need for both emotional and domestic security in order to thrive. You are good at taking care of things, and at caring for others.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Fifth House: Not just resting at home, but enjoying being there is of great importance to you. You probably have a home that other people enjoy.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Sixth House: You have a particular need to be happy with your work in order to do it well. Often, your happiness (or lack thereof) depends heavily on your health.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Seventh House: Your peace of mind is heavily dependent on your relationships… possibly too much so, at times.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Eighth House: You put a great deal of effort into your relationships and finances. There is often a childhood trauma that heavily influences you person to this day.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Ninth House: A philosophy of life, and expressing it, is important to you. Often the home has an exotic or library-like feeling to it.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Tenth House: Your career and direction in life is important to your feeling of security. You would probably do well working from home.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Eleventh House: Your need for personal security and comfort is often focused on others: friends, your social circle, or your role in society.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Twelfth House: Part of you may never feel secure until you feel you’ve merged with wither a partner or a Larger Principle. You may feel prone to emotional vulnerability.

Things the House rules you might not have expected: Mining, buildings in general, your spouse’s job.
