matthew currie astrology compatibility mercury(This blog entry is part of a series about how the planets in your birth chart affect other people, for better or worse. Click here for the introduction.)

THE PLANET: Mercury, traditionally referred to as “the Messenger of the Gods,” and noted for his speed. That’s a good thing, because when you’re the closest planet to the Sun it’s best to keep moving.

WHAT IT DOES FOR YOU: Mercury is the general ruler of thought processes, words, and communications.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR LOVE AND ROMANCE: It would be a bit of an an oversimplification to say that Mercury is an indicator of how you think, but that’s certainly a large part of it. Thought processes are often a matter for the Moon, but Mercury is how you express those thoughts.

WHAT IT DOES TO OTHERS (GOOD): It has become a cliche that the key to making a relationship work is communication, but it became a cliche because it’s absolutely true. Positive aspects to someone else’s Mercury from your chart is often literally a matter of “I like your thinking.”

WHAT IT DOES TO OTHER PLANETS (BAD): Difficult aspects to someone else’s Mercury, or from that other person’s charts to your Mercury, often leads to misunderstanding, and can make a relationship vulnerable to irrational melt-downs.

HOW DO I WORK WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S MERCURY? Mercury rules talking, so why not talk things out instead of throwing the dishes at each other or simply assuming that more great sex will eliminate the need for the two of you to work out a budget together, or whatever?
