Carrie Underwood recently took the stage to sing a powerful rendition of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” to honor Vince Gill. She took the stage for the “CMT Giants: Vince Gill” episode where the performers all paid tribute to Vince Gill, who was emotional in attendance. Underwood stunned the stage in a light blue gown, where she showcased her powerhouse vocals that won her Season 4 of American Idol back in 2005, which kickstarted her career in the music industry.

Underwood sings beautifully throughout the song about loss, faith and the ultimate redemption. She included the new and final verse that Gill added and introduced back in 2019. She ended the song with her show-stopping vocals that left Gill teary-eyed in the audience. After her performance, she earned a standing ovation from the crowd, led by Gill himself.

Gill began writing “Go Rest High On That Mountain” back in 1989 following Keith Whitley’s death from alcohol poisoning. Four years later in 1993, Vince’s bother, Bob, passed away from a heart attack, prompting Gill to write the chorus and a second verse. The song reached many highs, earning CMA and Grammy Awards, becoming one of Gill’s most iconic songs to date.

“CMT Giants: Vince Gill” was filmed in Nashville and had many country music stars in attendance to honor Vince Gill. There were also performances from country music stars such as Brad Paisley, Cody Johnson, and Chris Stapleton along with other iconic musicians such as Sting. The TV special was set to honor Vince Gill, who was in attendance, who has been a lasting standout in the country music world for decades. The special aired in CMT on September 16th.
