“Wonder Woman” Gal Gadot probably believed she was doing something pure and special for our community when she gathered up her celebrity friends to create a compilation of them all singing the classic John Lennon track, “Imagine”, as a way to show solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic. That message, though, did not get across.

For those that have felt the hard economic impact of businesses being shut down and being sentenced to quarantine, the video was a tone-deaf response to the crisis. Having some of the most privileged people in society sing from the comfort of their multi-million dollar home didn’t sit well with people all across social media. They wanted the celebrities to “Imagine” the pain they are going through – having no job or no food on the table.

The video made appearances by a slew of celebrities: Will Farrel, Natalie Portmon, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, Sia, and more. Many on social media called for these celebrities to take action towards real relief, such as donating money to local charities. It should be noted that many A-list stars already have like Blake Lively and Justin Bieber.

Most users additionally labeled the video cringy. One user said: “Honey, look at all the rich people singing Imagine. Everything will be alright now, even though we both lost our jobs. This was so much better than money and not cringy at all.” Another mocked: “BOO, donate if you really care abt the world rn.”

Other celebrities and comedians agreed that the video was out of touch. Joe Rogan blasted Gadot on his latest podcast, saying “This is not the time when everyone’s grannie is dying, you idiot, to sing, ‘Imagine there’s no heaven.’ It’s such a dumb move.”

He continued by saying the group was a bunch of “knuckleheads”. He thinks it’s really not what the country needs at this time, and said even worse they were bad singers.

Comedian Tom Segura, Joe’s podcast guest, thinks Gal and her buddies probably feel like they did something significant, but he says it’s really a slap in the face to many. Tom joked: “I lost my job at the meatpacking plant, but Gal Gadot sang ‘Imagine.'”
