Phil Robertson, the bearded patriarch of the beloved “Duck Dynasty” family, has died at the age of 79. Best known for his rugged faith, unwavering honesty, and bold witness for Jesus Christ, Robertson left behind not only a wildly successful television show but also a powerful testimony of transformation that impacted millions.
His family announced his passing on May 25, sharing that Robertson had been battling multiple health conditions, including a blood disorder and Alzheimer’s disease. “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” wrote daughter-in-law Korie in a heartfelt Instagram post. “He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘You do not grieve like those who have no hope…’”

Robertson’s life was never about fame, though God used his story in extraordinary ways. Before he became a TV star and founder of the Duck Commander company, Robertson’s life was marked by deep brokenness. Struggling with alcoholism and infidelity, he nearly destroyed his marriage and family. But in what has become a widely shared and deeply moving testimony, Phil found Jesus, and everything changed.
“I’m embarrassed by my past on one side, but on the other, I’m unashamed because my rotten sins have been bought and paid for by blood,” Robertson said in a 2023 interview with CBN’s Faithwire. That redemption story became the basis for “The Blind,” a feature film released in 2023 that captured Phil’s radical transformation and his wife Miss Kay’s unwavering faith through the darkest years. “If The Blind brings one person to know the power of the blood of Jesus, it was worth it,” Phil said.
From the moment he surrendered his life to Christ, Phil Robertson made it his mission to share the Gospel with anyone who would listen. “I’ve noticed that when you love God and love your neighbor and you make known that you follow Jesus Christ—His death, burial, resurrection—that’s all I’ve been saying the last 40 years, 50 years,” he once said.
His son Jase recalled on social media, “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed, but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!”
“Duck Dynasty,” which aired on A&E from 2012 to 2017, introduced the world to the Robertson family’s humor, quirks, and deep Christian values. But it was Phil’s boldness for truth and his unapologetic love for God that set him apart. He often used the spotlight not for self-promotion, but to point people to Jesus.
His health had declined in recent months, with family members sharing updates on the Unashamed podcast. “We’re making him comfortable, and we’re doing the best we can,” Jase said in April. “I think that’s just what you do.”
Now, as Phil rests in the arms of his Savior, his family is preparing a private service with plans for a public celebration of life to be shared soon. In their words: “We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”
Phil Robertson didn’t just build duck calls—he built a legacy of faith, family, and redemption. His journey from “drunkard and heathen,” as he once described himself, to bold evangelist proves what God can do with a surrendered heart. He may have left this world, but his story—and his Savior—will continue changing lives.
