John Mellencamp is opening up about his daughter Teddi Mellencamp’s difficult cancer journey and the toll it has taken on their family. The 74-year-old musician recently spoke about the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star during appearances on both The Joe Rogan Experience and NBC’s Today Show, sharing that his daughter is still facing serious health challenges as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 melanoma.

On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Mellencamp didn’t hold back about the reality of the battle. “It’s not f—ing fun,” he said, adding, “She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now.”

Teddi, 44, was first diagnosed in 2022 with stage 2 melanoma — a deadly form of skin cancer. Over time, it spread to her brain and lungs, leading to multiple surgeries and rounds of immunotherapy. She has been transparent with fans about each step of her journey through social media and her podcast, Two T’s in a Pod.

In October 2025, she shared what felt like a breakthrough moment, telling listeners, “At this point there is no detectable cancer.” She added, “When they told me, I was in such shock. I was like, numb.” Even with that hopeful update, she reminded her audience that the fight wasn’t over, explaining, “I still am in immunotherapy, so I’m still fighting because you have to be.”

Doctors also cautioned her that remission would take time. “The way the [doctors] said it works, it’s like one year, then two years, then at three years you’re allowed to be considered in remission,” she said.

Mellencamp echoed that on the Today Show, saying, “You can’t say you’re cancer-free with the type of cancer she’s got for three years.” He noted that Teddi experiences highs and lows as she continues treatment. “She has her good days and bad days,” he explained, adding that after each immunotherapy session “she feels like hell for about four days” before “feeling normal again.”

As a father, Mellencamp admitted he has tried to convince her to move closer to home during this season. “I said, ‘Move back to Indiana, bring the kids and just come back and live in Indiana,’ but she won’t do it,” he joked.

Behind the scenes, the family has even had candid talks about end-of-life planning — something Teddi recounted with both humor and honesty. During a 2025 podcast episode, she said her dad called repeatedly to insist she finalize her burial plans, telling her, “I just want to make sure you’re going to be in our group family mausoleum.” She laughed as she recalled eventually giving in, saying, “I think I agreed to be in the mausoleum.”

Today, Teddi continues immunotherapy and has been upfront about her odds, saying doctors once gave her a “50/50” chance of survival. Despite the setbacks, her father is hopeful — and proud of how his daughter has fought. As he put it, this journey is far from easy, but the Mellencamp family is walking it together.
