In February, Teddi Mellencamp revealed a multiple brain tumor diagnosis after doctors investigated her sudden, severe headaches. Now, she is sharing news that her cancer—which began as melanoma—has metastasized. Emergency brain surgery discovered additional tumors that were not removed, and scans revealed two more in her lung.
“After a CT scan and MRI, doctors found multiple tumors on my brain, which they believe have been growing for at least 6 months,” Teddi shared in February. “Two of the tumors will be surgically removed today – The remaining smaller tumors will be dealt with via radiation at a later date.”

Teddi, who is also a wellness coach and trainer, expressed gratitude for the support from her children, family, friends, and medical team as they work to restore her health. She thanked everyone who reached out and stood by her during this difficult time.
Earlier, she posted a photo on her Instagram story showing herself resting in a hospital bed, her eyes closed and sensors attached to her forehead. She captioned the image, “Counting down the minutes until my babies get here.”
Referring to her father, John Mellencamp, she shared, “As my dad said this a.m., god only gives hard stuff to those of us who can handle it. It’s a hard day but I have faith and amazing surgeons and know everything will be ok.”
Alongside the announcement of her diagnosis and surgery, Teddi shared a video of her getting her hair buzzed off in preparation for the procedure. She humorously remarked on her new look, “I didn’t have this look on my bucket list,” as her friend Marisela Arechiga assisted her.
Arechiga encouraged her with, “Love you babe. You got this.” Another person in the video commented, “Might be your best look yet,” during what appeared to be a moment in Teddi’s hospital room. She added a playful reference to Britney Spears, saying, “All I need now is an umbrella,” nodding to Spears’ own head-shaving incident in 2007.
Aside from her current health challenges, Teddi has been fighting skin cancer for years. She reminded her followers of the importance of skin checks on #WorldCancerDay, alongside a picture of a significant scar on her back. She urged others to schedule their appointments, a step she has been vocal about throughout her cancer journey.
In 2022, Teddi was informed she had Stage 2 melanoma after previously being diagnosed with the condition. By 2023, she faced her 13th melanoma diagnosis, and though she didn’t need more biopsies afterward, she had gone through enough procedures to remove 17 cancerous spots.
