Sarah Jakes Roberts is sharing a powerful testimony of faith and gratitude after a frightening accident that nearly changed her life forever.
The 36-year-old pastor, author, and daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes revealed she is recovering from a serious neck injury after landing awkwardly while playing on a trampoline with her daughter, Ella. What began as a lighthearted moment quickly turned terrifying.
“Last night was scary. I was almost paralyzed, but God didn’t see fit to let that be my story,” Roberts wrote in an Instagram post, alongside a photo of herself in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace.
Roberts said she immediately knew something was wrong after the fall. “I landed on my neck and heard several pops,” she shared. Her daughter quickly alerted her father, and emergency services were called as the situation escalated.
After being transported to two different hospitals and undergoing multiple scans, doctors delivered sobering news. “Two hospitals, several scans, and hours later, we learned that I had fractured my neck, herniated discs, and endangered areas of my spine that could have left me paralyzed,” she explained.
The severity of the injury left Roberts reflecting on just how close she came to a life-altering outcome. “One disc up or one disc lower, and this would’ve been a different testimony,” she wrote.
Now, Roberts is focused on healing. She will be wearing a neck brace for four to six weeks as her body recovers, choosing to “lay low” and approach the process with wisdom and patience.
But even amid pain and uncertainty, her response has been rooted in faith.
“I’m soaking in the presence and kindness of God and in the love of friends and family,” she shared, expressing gratitude for both divine protection and the support system surrounding her.

Roberts, who recently stepped into her role as co-senior pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas alongside her husband, Touré Roberts, has long been open about her journey—one marked by both hardship and redemption. From becoming a teen mother to navigating personal struggles, she has consistently pointed to God’s grace as the foundation of her story.
In a past interview, she reflected on how those challenges shaped her faith. “What we were is so important for where we are now, because it teaches us how to show up in life better,” she said.
Now, this latest chapter adds another layer to that testimony—one that underscores both the fragility of life and the faithfulness of God.
For many believers, Roberts’ story serves as a reminder of God’s protection even in unexpected moments. Scripture tells us that God is near in times of trouble, and her experience echoes that truth in a deeply personal way.
As she begins the road to recovery, Roberts’ message is clear: even in the scariest moments, faith can turn fear into testimony.
