Christina Applegate’s ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis is once again in the spotlight after new reports claim the actress has been hospitalized since late March—though questions remain about her current condition.

According to multiple outlets, the 54-year-old actress was admitted to a medical facility toward the end of last month. However, her team has not confirmed the details. In a statement, her representative said, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” while noting that Applegate has “a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

That openness has become a defining part of Applegate’s journey since she revealed her MS diagnosis in 2021. The autoimmune disease affects the central nervous system and can lead to symptoms like numbness, weakness, and severe pain—challenges Applegate has described in deeply personal terms.

In her recent memoir You With the Sad Eyes, she shared just how difficult daily life has become. “When I wake up, I often can’t get my arm to move far enough to grab the cup of water by my bed or my phone from its charger,” she wrote. On her podcast, she has been even more candid about the physical toll, saying, “I lay in bed screaming. Like, the sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing.”

The pain has at times been so intense that even simple tasks feel impossible. “I can’t even pick up my phone sometimes… I can’t open bottles now,” she admitted, describing how the disease has progressed into her hands.

Despite these hardships, Applegate has continued to push forward, especially for her daughter, Sadie. In a recent interview, she spoke about the small but meaningful moments she fights to hold onto. “I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do,” she said of driving her daughter to school. “I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’”

Her honesty hasn’t stopped at the physical realities of MS. Applegate has also opened up about the emotional weight of living with a chronic illness. In a recent NPR interview, she revealed, “I think about death every day ‘cause it’s looming… For people who have a disease like this, you never know.”

Still, it’s her role as a mother that weighs heaviest. Speaking through tears, she admitted her greatest fear is how her daughter would cope without her. “I’m very not comfortable because I’m going to hurt my kid,” she said. “I get really scared about that.”

Even as uncertainty surrounds her reported hospitalization, one thing remains clear: Applegate’s willingness to share her journey—both the pain and the perseverance—continues to resonate with fans who have followed her career and now stand with her through one of life’s most difficult battles.

UPDATE: Christina Applegate has now addressed the recent hospitalization rumors, expressing gratitude for the support she’s received. “Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,” she shared on Instagram. “Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day.” She added, “I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”

Applegate has previously revealed the severe toll MS has taken on her body, noting on her “MeSsy” podcast that she has been hospitalized “upwards of 30 times” since her 2021 diagnosis. “For three years… I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain,” she said. “That is unimaginable.”

She has also spoken candidly about how the disease affects her daily life and even basic bodily functions. “One of the things with MS is that it slows down our organs,” she explained, adding that symptoms can be unpredictable and frightening. “I’m in the middle of the same exact situation… and it sucks, and it’s scary.”

Despite the ongoing challenges, Applegate continues to embrace honesty about her journey. “My life isn’t wrapped up with a bow,” she said. “People’s lives… suck sometimes. So I’m being as honest and raw as I possibly can.”
