Despite the revised diagnosis, Applegate continues to experience chronic pain and significant mobility limitations, sometimes requiring a wheelchair. She has also spoken about the emotional toll of her illness and the uncertainty surrounding her health.

Applegate has been married to musician Martyn LeNoble since 2013. The couple shares a daughter, Sadie Grace, born in 2011. She was previously married to actor Jonathan Schaech from 2001 to 2007.
