Who the heck is Larry Krueger, some of you are probably wondering?

Actually, some of you who know me know Larry and others of you who know sports do too.

Larry Krueger

OK, to clear that up … Larry Krueger is the radio sportscaster who lost his radio gig atKNBR in San Francisco a few years ago for referring to some poor play by Latino ballplayers as “Caribbean slop”.

It wasn’t the brightest thing to say and really not all that funny, but it drew the ire of Giants manager Felipe Alou at the time for being a hateful remark.

Alou went for the jugular and it eventually cost Krueger his gig in a power play by the skipper, who apparently isn’t all that keen on free speech even if it teeters on tasteless.

In the interest of full disclosure, Krueger, who is a fraternity brother (Lambda Chi Alpha) of mine from CSU-Sacramento, bounced around a bit and even-landed a gig on Chris Russo‘s SiriusXM channel.

It didn’t last, however, due to a cost-cutting measure by the Mike Francesa‘s ex-“Mad Dog”.

It appears Krueger has finally landed back on his feet and back on KNBR as I noticed via the Comcast TV simulcast the other day.

That’s good, as Krueger knows sports and can complement the listenable Gary Radnich during his appearances on the late morning-early afternoon program.

Apparently the station has hired Krueger to co-host the show and he may even take over the slot if Radnich moves to FM.

I am no longer in the Bay Area, so if one of you knows better perhaps you can fill me in.

Fortunes can sure change in radio, huh?
