Merry and Pippin were right after all.  Second Breakfast is fun, though fattening.  It transpires about 9-10 or so in the morning, and can even be followed by Elevensies for those Hobbits looking to be the most well-rounded of the bunch.  Ann and I were fortunate enough to make one Second Breakfast at a renowned spot — Walnut Cottage near Arrowtown outside Queenstown.

Second Breakfast can go on for quite a while depending upon the number of scones and the conviviality of the company.

As you can see, we arrived early enough for there to be plenty of scones and Devon clotted cream (which produces Devon clotted arteries no doubt).  Here is our merry band sharing Second Breakfast.

Our trusty guide of Southern Lakes Tours produced some LOTR artifacts.  We perused the script to the movie ‘Two Towers’, and some of the cartoons produced by those busy elves at Weta Cave in their spare time whilst the trilogy was being filmed.  See below.

What Peter Jackson is saying in the second cartoon is ‘What proportions/scale are we working with today?’  After all, Gimli was NOT played by a dwarf — just ask 6’1″ John Rhys Davies.

Walnut Cottage is a place where numerous beautiful moments can be shared, and a relaxing time can be had by all.  Here are a few more shots.

Most surprising of all was the Hobbit privy in the back of Walnut Cottage.  Here one finds an interesting wall inscription:

Notice the last line — ‘feast on your life’ — an apt description of Hobbit behavior.  One could as well say ‘feast for life’, but now I am able to reveal further evidence of Hobbit humor. Notice the toilet paper dispenser below in the Hobbit privy hole…
