Reese Witherspoon was born in New Orleans while her father was in medical school at Tulane, and lived with her family in Germany while her father was stationed there, but was raised primarily in Nashville. She went to an all-girls school and was a cheerleader, and studied English at Stanford.
Reese is very vocal about her “traditional Southern upbringing”, that it gave her a sense of family and responsibility. Her production company is called Little Type A, after the nickname her parents gave her.
Her first feature role, alongside Jim Carrey in The Man in the Moon, soon led to her breakout role in the Legally Blonde films, and shortly after her Academy Award-winning role in Walk the Line as June Carter Cash.
