NBA star player Ja’Kobe Amare Walter was born in McKinney, a suburb of Dallas, Texas, where he grew up and attended high school. In high school, he sprouted to 6’4” and became the star shooting guard for the Lions Basketball Team.

He averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game, leading the team to the Texas UIL Championship game, which earned plenty of looks from NBA scouts.

A five-star recruit in high school, Ja’Kobe enrolled at Baylor University, a Christian school in Waco, Texas. He became the second-straight Baylor player to win the preseason and postseason Freshman of the Year Award in the Big 12 Conference, following Keyonte George, currently a guard with the Utah Jazz.

Known as a “three and D” player, Ja’Kobe Walter can do just about anything on the court. He may draw his inspiration from two of the NBA’s best players, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, whom he was named after.

In June 2024, he was an inch taller and a few pounds of muscle heavier. The Toronto Raptors recruited Walter with the 19th overall pick that year. He has become a fan favorite for the Raptors and continues to help lead the team.

Ja’Kobe Walter’s Religious Beliefs

Walter’s Instagram bio begins with “walking with God,” a deep faith he has credited to his parents since childhood.

“My parents put me in the church at a young age and have always told me to put God first in anything I do,” Walter told HisHuddle.com before enrolling at Baylor. “Faith has always been important for me since the beginning.”

During several post-game press conferences, during which Ja’Kobe generated impressive statistics, he frequently praised Jesus Christ for his game, team, and abilities.

“Without God, I wouldn’t be in the position I am right now…God has given me opportunities I would’ve never thought I would have,” he said once.

Walter frequently attests that his drive was gained through his parents' love and confidence in Him. However, the sense of humility he exhibits throughout his career and displays during any televised appearances clearly hails from his faith in Christ.
