Tage Thompson is an American professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). Known for his size, scoring touch, and offensive versatility, Thompson has developed into one of the league’s most dynamic forwards and a centerpiece of Buffalo’s long-term core.

Thompson was born in Phoenix, Arizona, while his father, Brent Thompson, was playing professional hockey with the Phoenix Coyotes organization. Growing up in a hockey family, Tage was immersed in the sport from an early age. His father later transitioned into coaching, which required the family to relocate frequently. As a result, Thompson attended more than ten schools across several states during his childhood, adapting to new environments while continuing to develop his game.

Despite the constant movement, hockey remained a stabilizing force in Thompson’s life. He competed in a variety of youth programs before earning a spot with the U.S. National Team Development Program, where he faced elite junior competition and refined his offensive instincts. He later completed his high school education in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after accelerating his graduation to begin his collegiate career.

Thompson committed to the University of Connecticut, where he played two seasons of NCAA Division I hockey. He signed his entry-level contract in 2017 and made his NHL debut later that year, splitting time between the Blues and their American Hockey League affiliate as he adjusted to the professional level.

In 2018, Thompson was traded to the Buffalo Sabres as part of a multi-player deal. The move proved to be a turning point in his career.
