When your father was picked number one overall in the 1978 NBA draft and later became known as one of the infamous “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers, you better understand that you have gigantic shoes to fill. Such was life for a young Klay Thompson, whose father Mychal is a Laker great playing alongside Magic, Kareem, Scott, Worthy, and Rambis.

Although today, Klay Thompson is playing his twilight years (in NBA years, respectively) in Dallas, he will always be known as one half of the “Splash Brothers” in Golden State with shooting legend Steph Curry. A three-point shooting ace and NBA record holder of the most threes in one game at 14 (that’s 52 points), Klay is known to attract attention wherever he goes.

When Thompson was just 14, his family made a big move to beautiful Ladera Ranch, California. There, he proudly graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita in 2008. During his junior season, Thompson earned a well-deserved spot on the All-Area second and Orange County third teams.

As a standout senior, Thompson wowed fans with a thrilling appearance in the Division III State Championship. He set a state record with seven three-pointers, showcasing his incredible talent. For his outstanding performance, he was honored as the Division III State Player of the Year, League MVP, and proud member of the first team, Best in the West.

Following three proven years of shooting success at Washington State University, Klay was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 11th overall pick in 2011. His accolades with the Warriors have been well-reported, and he is playing with a Showtime dynasty of his own. Those years led him to become a four-time NBA champion, five-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA third team, and recipient of a gold medal with the U.S. National team during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Klay Thompson’s Religious Beliefs

Klay Thompson is not known for witnessing or proselytizing; it is understood that he and his other brother, Trayce, who plays Major League Baseball with the Boston Red Sox, were raised in a Catholic household.

To help underscore that thinking with fans, Klay attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

From his father’s example, Klay keeps his faith to himself, so deduction and assumption are all the headlines can glean. He has been seen reading scripture and praying before a game.
