Blake Treinen is a Major League Baseball pitcher known for his excellence on the mound and ability to bounce back after setbacks. He’s pitched for several teams and played a big part in two World Series wins with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But Treinen is also known for his steady faith and how he lives out his Christian beliefs daily.
Treinen was born in 1988 in Wichita, Kansas. He didn’t follow a typical path to the major leagues. After high school, he started at Baker University, a private Christian college in Kansas. His time there helped shape his values and his future. He later transferred to the University of Arkansas but didn’t play due to health problems. Eventually, he found his place at South Dakota State University. There, he played college baseball and studied sports and recreation management.
In 2011, Treinen was drafted by the Oakland Athletics, but he made his major league debut in 2014 with the Washington Nationals. After a few seasons in Washington, he was traded back to the A’s in 2017. That trade was a major turning point in his career.
His best season was in 2018 as the closing pitcher for the Oakland A’s. That year, he allowed very few runs and struck out 100 batters. He also played a major role in 38 winning games. On top of that, he was chosen for the All-Star Game and earned a reputation as one of the top relief pitchers in baseball.
Treinen joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 and helped them win the World Series. He followed that with another strong year in 2021 and pitched in 72 games. He stayed on top as one of the team’s most dependable arms. Although he missed a big part of the 2022–2023 season due to shoulder surgery, he returned just in time to help the Dodgers win another World Series in 2024.
Treinen and his wife, Kati, have four children: Addison, Crue, Selah, and Quinn. Kati played basketball in college and is a women’s basketball coach. The family lives in Walla Walla, Washington.
As of early 2025, Treinen hasn’t officially retired, though he hasn’t played much. But he still brings leadership and experience to the team, both on and off the field.
Blake Treinen’s Religious Beliefs
Treinen often talks openly about his Roman Catholic Christian faith. He has said that his relationship with God is what guides him through life, including the ups and downs of a baseball career.
“I gotta give glory to God,” Treinen said in an interview with Sports Spectrum after the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres in 2024. “For God to give me an opportunity to close out a game with the Dodgers against this great team, it’s a true blessing.”
Although he grew up with Christianity, he didn’t commit himself to his faith until he was an adult. It was during a difficult time that Treinen contacted a chaplain he knew. Proverbs 3:5–6 was what he got, and it stuck with him. He even includes “Proverbs 3:5–6” when he signs his name.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Another favorite Bible verse is Romans 10:9: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
For Treinen, faith isn’t about rewards. It’s not about baseball or winning. It’s about real belief.
In 2023, Treinen made headlines for speaking out after the Dodgers honored the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence during a Pride Night event. In a public statement, Treinen explained his concerns as a Christian. He quoted Galatians 6:7:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
Treinen said his statement wasn’t about judging anyone. Instead, it was about staying true to his faith and standing up for what he believes the Bible teaches. He clarified that his issue was with what he saw as “mockery of Catholics and Christian faith,” not with any group of people. He hoped that sharing his thoughts might lead to respectful conversations.
Even when facing mixed reactions, Treinen remained calm and respectful. He later said he felt led to speak out, not out of anger or pride, but because of his commitment to biblical values.
Treinen also takes part in team Bible studies and faith-based events and often credits the Christian community as a major source of support. He's known as a humble guy who doesn’t just talk faith but lives it.
For Blake Treinen, baseball is important, but it’s not who he is. His faith in God, shaped by years of personal devotion, influences how he plays, how he leads, and how he lives.
