A proud Texan, Trevor John Story was born in the original hometown of the Dallas Cowboys in Irving, 20 minutes northwest of Dallas. The second baseman and shortstop went to Irving High School, where he was also a pitcher with a 96MPH fastball. Additionally, Story played as the starting quarterback until his sophomore year, when he decided that football was not his lot in life.

Coincidentally, Trevor Story was given a scholarship to LSU, home of the Tigers, and also his high school mascot. Following three years of elite baseball with Louisiana State University, Story was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 2011 MLB Draft. He signed a $915,000 bonus and spent the next four years in the minors, perfecting his craft and working to earn the Rockies' investment in his future.

His debut in the major leagues was from a fairy tale, as he hit two home runs off perennial All-Star pitcher Zack Greinke. At that time, he was the first National League player to ever hit two home runs in his debut and the first Major League Baseball player to hit two home runs in his debut on Opening Day. Unfortunately, a torn ligament in his thumb took the 2016 season from him in August.

The following year, in 2017, he earned All-Star and Silver Slugger honors. Until 2022, Story was the only person Colorado would have envisioned replacing the All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Yet, he became known as one of the best all-around shortstops in the National League. When he was an unrestricted free agent in 2022, he signed a stunning six-year, $140M contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Accepting a new role as a clubhouse leader and mentor to younger players, Story filled his shoes nicely and quickly in Beantown. In the seasons since, Trevor Story has solidified his numbers at a lifetime .265 hitter, .500 slugging percentage, 181 homers and 544 runs batted in.

Trevor Story’s Religious Beliefs

For Trevor Story, being an outspoken Christian is what is supposed to happen.

Early in his career at Colorado, he said, “I don’t know how you play baseball without being a Christian and having that strong faith, just because this game is so demanding and it’s built on failure.”

Story is a dedicated Christian who routinely shares his faith with fellow players and the media. Above saying the Word of God to anyone who will listen, Story understands his actions are the most important.

“I think that’s really rooted in my faith, being in the Word,” Story said to Movieguide.org. “I think we all need to be in the Word more than we are. That’s a challenge of mine that I really try to do.”
