Shilo Sanders is the son of Deion Sanders and the brother of Shedeur Sanders. Shilo played high school football at Trinity Christian in Texas alongside Shedeur; their father served as the team's offensive coordinator. Shilo originally played college football at the University of South Carolina, where he played for parts of two seasons. As a freshman, Shilo played sparingly, recording two tackles and a fumble recovery. In the 2020 season, which COVID-19 shortened, he had 32 tackles, including 1 tackle-for-loss (TFL). He also had one pass deflection.

Following the 2020 season, Shilo entered the transfer portal and transferred to Jackson State, where his father had been named head coach. During the 2021 season, Shilo was named to the second team of the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC). He had 39 tackles, seven pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and four interceptions. An ACL injury shortened his 2022 season, and he played in only 7 games, recording 20 tackles and 1 interception.

After the 2022 season, Shilo entered the transfer portal again. He transferred to Colorado to play for his father and with his brother, Shedeur. In his career at Colorado, Shilo recorded 125 tackles (solo and assisted), which included 3 tackles for loss. He also had one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. Shilo also tallied five forced fumbles, one of which he also returned for a touchdown.

After not being selected during the 2025 NFL draft, Shilo signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, during a preseason game against Buffalo, Shilo received a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for punching a Buffalo player after a play. His coach, Todd Bowles, described the punch as "inexcusable" after the game. Three days later, Shilo was released by the Buccaneers as part of their final roster cuts before the 2025 season.

While in high school, Shilo was alleged to have attacked a security officer at the school. That officer, John Darjean, claimed that Shilo struck him in the chest with his elbow, and then continued to hit him after he fell to the ground. Darjean filed suit against Shilo in 2016. When the case went to trial in 2022, Shilo failed to appear, resulting in an $11.89 million judgment against him. The following year, Shilo filed for bankruptcy, claiming assets of less than $500,000 and liabilities exceeding $11 million (including the judgment against him).

In addition to Darjean's judgment against Shilo, the bankruptcy trustee is also seeking to recover some of Sanders' NIL money that was allegedly improperly transferred to holding companies owned by Shilo. As of early 2026, the bankruptcy case is still pending.

Is Shilo Sanders Religious?

Like his brother Shedeur, Shilo has been open about his Christian faith. He has repeatedly expressed his trust in God despite difficult situations, including being cut by Tampa Bay.

After his release, he stated, "I've been talking to my agent, and we're waiting on the next opportunity. If that's the NFL, cool, but God's blessed me with a lot of talents to do other things than play football…I truly believe God has a big plan for me, and I'm grateful to bring you along with me and keep you updated on everything."
