Matthew Robert Smith is an English actor best known for his roles as the 11th Doctor on "Doctor Who" and His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on the Netflix series "The Crown." Smith was originally a theater performer and appeared in "Murder in the Cathedral," "Fresh Kills" and "On the Shore of the Wide World" before eventually reaching the West End where he performed in "Swimming with Sharks" and "That Face." He shifted into television in 2006 and 2007 before becoming the youngest person to take on the role of the Doctor in 2009.
