Jeff Sessions was born in Selma, Alabama and attended Huntingdon College and University of Alabama School of Law. He entered private practice after graduating in 1973. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and was later appointed to be the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. He held the position for 12 years. He began serving in the U.S. Senate in 1996 after defeating Roger Bedford in the general election. Sessions later served as the Attorney General of the United States under President Donald Trump beginning in 2017.
