Emma Roberts is an American actress, producer and former singer who began her career as a child performer before becoming known for roles in American Horror Story, Scream Queens and a range of films and romantic comedies. The daughter of actor Eric Roberts and niece of actress Julia Roberts, she has worked in Hollywood since childhood and has developed a particular following for her work in horror and thriller projects.

Emma Rose Roberts was born on February 10, 1991, in Rhinebeck, New York, to actor Eric Roberts and Kelly Cunningham. Her parents separated when she was an infant, and Roberts was primarily raised by her mother. She has a younger maternal half-sister, Grace.

Roberts comes from a prominent acting family. Her paternal grandmother, Betty Lou Bredemus, was an acting coach, while actresses Julia Roberts and Lisa Roberts Gillan are her aunts. As a child, Emma frequently spent time on the sets of Julia Roberts' movies, an experience that helped spark her interest in acting. Her mother initially wanted her to have a more conventional childhood rather than enter the entertainment industry at a young age.

Roberts attended the Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles. In 2011, she enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where she planned to study English literature, but put her studies on hold the following year to concentrate on acting.

Roberts made her film debut at age nine in the 2001 crime drama Blow, playing the daughter of Johnny Depp's character, George Jung. After several smaller roles, she received her breakthrough in 2004 as Addie Singer in the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous.

The show ran for three seasons and turned Roberts into a teen star. Her work on the series also launched a brief music career. She released the soundtrack album Unfabulous and More in 2005.

Roberts transitioned into movies with starring roles in Aquamarine in 2006 and Nancy Drew in 2007. She subsequently appeared in films including Wild Child, Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day, It's Kind of a Funny Story and The Art of Getting By.

As she moved into adult roles, Roberts became increasingly associated with horror and dark comedy. She appeared in Scream 4 in 2011 and joined the third season of FX's American Horror Story in 2013. She returned for several additional seasons of the anthology series.

In 2015, Roberts began starring as Chanel Oberlin in the Fox horror-comedy series Scream Queens. The role became one of her best-known performances. Her later film credits include Nerve, Holidate, Maybe I Do, About Fate and Madame Web.

Roberts has also expanded into producing. She co-founded the online book club Belletrist in 2017 and later established the production company Belletrist Productions, developing film and television projects with an emphasis on literary adaptations.

Roberts began dating actor Evan Peters in 2012 after they worked together on Adult World. Their relationship was frequently on and off, and the couple became engaged before eventually separating in 2019.

She later dated actor Garrett Hedlund. Roberts announced her pregnancy in 2020, and the couple welcomed their son, Rhodes Robert Hedlund, in December of that year. Roberts and Hedlund later ended their relationship.

In 2022, Roberts began dating actor Cody John. The couple announced their engagement in July 2024. Roberts has generally kept their relationship relatively private while occasionally sharing photographs together publicly.

Outside acting, Roberts is known for her interest in literature. Through Belletrist, she has promoted books and authors and turned her longtime enthusiasm for reading into a significant part of her professional work.

Emma Roberts' Religious Beliefs

Roberts has been identified publicly as Christian, although she has shared relatively little about her personal religious beliefs. Because Roberts has rarely addressed the subject herself in substantial public interviews, it would be difficult to characterize the role Christianity currently plays in her daily life. Available biographical sources identify her as Christian, but more specific claims about her religious practices or beliefs are not well documented.
