Born third of six children to Irish parents in Boston, was valedictorian of his high school graduating class and attended Harvard, where his talent for writing flourished. His early career included writing stints for HBO and improv troupes before being hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live and then The Simpsons.
After 15 years of hosting Late Night with Conan O'Brien, O'Brien took over hosting The Tonight Show when Jay Leno retired in 2009, but after a conflict due to air time, he opted instead to host his own show on TBS, Conan.
