Arthur Miller is best known as the playwright behind Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, as well as being married to Marilyn Monroe for five years. Born in Harlem, Miller’s father owned a women’s clothing business. Miller earned a degree from the University of Michigan in 1938 and began writing plays, of which Death of a Salesman which won the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony Award for Best Play. Arthur Miller is thought to be one of the best dramatists of his time and the theater at his alma mater is named for him.
