Ella Langley is an American country singer-songwriter known for her traditional country sound, candid songwriting and breakout hits including “You Look Like You Love Me,” “Weren’t for the Wind” and “Choosin’ Texas.” Born Elizabeth Camille Langley on May 3, 1999, in Hope Hull, Alabama, she grew up in a musical family with two brothers and a sister.
Music was part of Langley’s life from an early age. Her grandfather played several instruments, and she spent time singing beside him at the piano. After his death, Langley’s father had her grandfather’s guitar restrung for her when she was 14. She taught herself to play Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” that same night. Growing up on a farm, Langley sometimes practiced performing for the cows in her family’s pasture.
Langley was homeschooled until seventh grade and later attended Hooper Academy, where she performed in a school talent show in 2016. As a teenager, she worked at a trampoline park while playing local shows. After graduating in 2017, she attended Auburn University and studied forestry. Music increasingly became her priority, however, and she left college to pursue it full time.
Langley moved to Nashville in 2019 and began establishing herself in the city’s songwriting community. She signed a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing Nashville in 2021 and gained attention online with songs including “If You Have To.” Her career continued to build through touring and songwriting, including co-writing several tracks for Elle King’s album “Come Get Your Wife.”
In February 2023, Langley made her Grand Ole Opry debut and soon signed with Sony Music Nashville and Columbia Records. Her debut EP, “Excuse the Mess,” followed that May. She released her first full-length album, “Hungover,” in August 2024.
Her breakthrough came with “You Look Like You Love Me,” a duet with fellow Alabama country singer Riley Green. The song became a country radio No. 1 and earned major industry awards. Langley followed it with another No. 1 country single, “Weren’t for the Wind,” while continuing to tour as both a headliner and supporting act.
Langley’s second album, “Dandelion,” arrived in April 2026 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, “Choosin’ Texas,” co-written and co-produced with Miranda Lambert, became a massive crossover hit. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and made Langley the first female artist to simultaneously lead the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. In September 2026, it set a Billboard Hot 100 record by spending its 23rd nonconsecutive week at No. 1.
Langley has largely kept her personal life private. Her chemistry with Green prompted dating speculation, but both singers have said they are friends rather than a couple. Langley has also spoken publicly about personal struggles with mental health and the pressures accompanying her rapid rise in the music industry.
Ella Langley's Religious Beliefs
Langley is a Christian who was raised Southern Baptist. She has said she grew up attending a small Alabama church that originally began in a barn across the street from her family home. Church was central to her childhood, with Langley attending services on Sundays and Wednesdays and singing traditional hymns from an early age.
As an adult, Langley has become increasingly public about her Christian faith. She has discussed her religious upbringing in interviews, including an April 2026 appearance on Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast, and has thanked Jesus while accepting major music awards.
Her faith drew additional attention in June 2026 after she paused a performance at Kentucky’s Railbird Festival to speak about God’s love. Langley told the audience that people will “always fall short” but remain worthy of God’s love, adding that no one can provide that love “the way that our Lord and Savior can.” The comments went viral on social media, with fans praising her willingness to openly discuss Christianity from the stage.
