Dua Lipa was born on Aug. 22, 1995, in London, England, to Kosovo-Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa. Her family originally came from Pristina, Kosovo, and music played a major role in her upbringing. Her father was the lead singer of the Kosovan rock band Oda, which exposed her to artists such as David Bowie, Sting, Bob Dylan, and Radiohead at a young age.

Lipa began singing when she was just 5 years old. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London before her family temporarily moved back to Kosovo after the country declared independence in 2008. While living in Pristina, she became more connected to her Albanian roots and started seriously considering a music career.
