- Fun Fact: Hamilton struggled with drugs and alcohol abuse and has stated that he believed that Jesus brought him back from the brink. He credits his faith with what helped him get and stay sober.
Joshua Holt Hamilton began playing little league when he was young and was a star in his high school with a throw that was already clocking in at 97 miles per hour. He was picked first in the draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and joined their minor league system. His drug addiction, however, meant that he dropped out in 2003 and remained out of baseball for three years. Hamilton got clean in 2005. He was drafted by the Cubs and immediately traded to the Reds in 2006. He later played for the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He has spoken repeatedly about his battle with alcohol and drugs.
