Hewitt was born in Waco, Texas to medical professional parents who divorced when she was just 6 months old. She was a singer and a dancer when she was younger and started performing at the age of 3 when she made her debut singing at a wild stock fair. Her mother enrolled her in jazz, ballet, and tap classes that eventually landed her a spot on the Texas Show Team. She and her mother moved to Los Angeles in 1989 at the advice of a talent scout who saw potential in Hewitt’s career.

Hewitt eventually turned to acting and became a household name when she starred in Fox’s Party of Five TV show that aired from 1994 to 2000. She also starred in movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1998 and The Ghost Whisperer from 2005 to 2010. Hewitt has faced critic’s scrutiny throughout her career but has tried her best to brush it aside. She has defended herself publicly regarding her body weight and her love life. Since 2010, she has been in a relationship with actor Brian Hallisay and they were married quietly after the birth of their first daughter who was named Autumn James.
