Born on March 4, 1990, Green was raised in a working-class family, where he learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and humility from a young age. Growing up in a rough neighborhood, Green faced many challenges, including the constant threat of violence and the temptation of drugs and gangs. Green attended Saginaw High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. He was a standout player on the basketball team, leading them to back-to-back state championships in 2007 and 2008. Despite his success in high school, Green was overlooked by many college recruiters and received limited scholarship offers. However, he ultimately chose to attend Michigan State University, where he played under the legendary coach Tom Izzo.

At Michigan State, Green's hard work and dedication paid off. He became a key player for the Spartans and led the team to the NCAA Final Four in 2009 and 2010. After being drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft, Green quickly made a name for himself in the league.

Throughout his career, Green has consistently showcased his versatility and unique skill set on the court. His ability to defend multiple positions, rebound, facilitate, and score has made him an integral part of the Warriors' success. Green's tenacity and intensity on defense have earned him the title of Defensive Player of the Year, while his leadership and basketball IQ have made him a respected voice in the locker room.

Green's impact on the court goes beyond individual accolades. He has been a key contributor to the Warriors' three NBA championships, playing a crucial role in their dynasty.

However, because of his physical play, including multiple incidents in the playoffs, some have criticized him as being a "dirty." Green is frequently among the league leaders in technical fouls and ejections. Green put Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock November 14, 2023 resulting in a 5 game suspension for Green. In a statement, Green said he didn't regret his actions. Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Green's actions were "inexcusable". NBA executive vice president Joe Dumars said in a statement that his history of unsportsmanlike conduct played a role in the length of the ban.
