Cultural icon Andy Griffith started his life in rural Mt. Airy, North Carolina, the town which would become the background for the Andy Griffith show. Andy was raised Baptist, but took a great interest in the local Moravian congregation, a small group within Christianity who settled near his hometown. He considered becoming a Moravian minister, but decided to go to college for music instead. Griffith has been married to Cindi Knight since 1983. As a musician, he has released several compilations of great Christian hymns.
