Taylor Fritz is an American professional tennis player who has become one of the leading US men of his generation. Known for his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game, Fritz has reached the top five of the ATP rankings, competed in a Grand Slam final and represented the United States at the Olympic Games.

Fritz was born on Oct. 28, 1997, in Rancho Santa Fe, California, near San Diego. Tennis was part of his life almost from birth. His mother, Kathy May, was a professional player who reached the top 10 in the WTA rankings and three Grand Slam quarterfinals. His father, Guy Fritz, played professionally and later became a tennis coach. Fritz has two older maternal half-brothers, Chris and Kyle.

Fritz began playing tennis at age two and grew up with a tennis court at his family's home. He attended Torrey Pines High School, winning the CIF singles championship as a freshman before switching to online schooling to devote more time to tennis. He also played other sports before committing fully to tennis around age 15. His childhood tennis idols included Pete Sampras and Juan Martín del Potro.

Fritz enjoyed a standout junior career, winning the 2015 US Open boys' singles championship and finishing that year ranked No. 1 among juniors. He quickly transitioned to the professional circuit and reached his first ATP final in Memphis in 2016. His early success earned him the ATP Newcomer of the Year award. 

His biggest breakthrough came in 2022 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, near the Southern California desert, where he spent considerable time growing up. Fritz defeated Rafael Nadal in the final despite playing with an ankle injury, capturing his first ATP Masters 1000 title. 

Fritz reached another career milestone at the 2024 US Open, defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals to reach his first Grand Slam singles final. He lost to Jannik Sinner in the championship match but became the first American man to contest a major singles final since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009. He also won a bronze medal in men's doubles alongside Tommy Paul at the 2024 Paris Olympics and later reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 4. 

Fritz became a father at a young age. He married fellow tennis player Raquel Pedraza in 2016, and their son, Jordan, was born in 2017. The couple later divorced. Fritz has spoken openly about balancing professional tennis with fatherhood, saying that becoming a parent helped him mature and manage his time more effectively.

From 2020 until 2026, Fritz was in a high-profile relationship with social media influencer Morgan Riddle, who frequently traveled with him on tour. Away from tennis, he enjoys golf and video games and follows Manchester United and the Los Angeles Chargers.

His family background, however, includes both Jewish and Christian heritage. On his mother's side, Fritz has German-Jewish ancestry. Kathy May is a descendant of David May, the Jewish businessman who founded the May Department Stores Company, which became one of America's major retail companies.

Reports about Fritz's family have also identified Christian roots on his father's side. These different traditions form part of his family history, but Fritz himself has not publicly embraced either a Jewish or Christian religious identity.
