Cooper Flagg is an American basketball player who was drafted with the first pick of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Flagg attended Duke University for one year, leading the Blue Devils to both the ACC regular season title and the ACC Conference Tournament championship. Duke advanced to the final four of the 2025 NCAA tournament before losing to the University of Houston. Following his freshman season at Duke, Flagg entered the NBA draft.

Cooper was born in Newport, Maine, on December 21, 2006. Both of his parents also played collegiate basketball. His mother, Kelly, played for the University of Maine, while his father, Ralph, played for Eastern Maine Community College. Cooper's fraternal twin brother, Ace, plays basketball at the University of Maine.

When Cooper was a freshman at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine, he led Nokomis to the Maine Class A state championship and was the first freshman to be named Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. In the state championship game, Cooper scored 22 points and added 16 rebounds in Nokomis' 43-27 win over Falmouth High School.

Following his freshman year at Nokomis, Cooper and his brother, Ace, transferred from Nokomis to Monteverde Academy in Monteverde, Florida. He also played in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League before his first year at Monteverde, playing for the Florida Eagles. After his first season at Monteverde, Flagg played for the Maine United team in the EYBL. Following his sophomore year of high school (his first year at Monteverde), Cooper reclassified and entered the recruiting process for the 2024 high school class. He averaged over 16 points and 7 rebounds, while adding nearly 4 assists and 3 steals per game as well. He was named Gatorade National High School Player of the Year, Mr. Basketball USA, and Naismith Prep Player of the Year. He led Monteverde to an undefeated season and the school's eighth national championship.

Before he reclassified, Cooper was rated as the number 3 recruit of the 2025 class after his freshman season at Nokomis. Eventually, he became the number 1 prospect of the 2024 class after his high school career. He received his first college scholarship offer in eighth grade and was a highly sought prospect throughout high school. He eventually committed to play at Duke University. He became the first ACC player in 25 years to reach at least 500 points, 100 assists, and 30 blocked shots in the regular season. He was named both ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Player of the Year in the same season, becoming only the fourth player to achieve that honor.

In his rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks, Cooper has continued to reach astounding levels of performance. He tied LeBron James as the youngest player ever to score at least 25 points in an NBA game with 26 points in a game against Milwaukee. He also became the youngest player ever to notch 10 or more assists in a game, beating James' record by 12 days, against LeBron's L.A. Lakers squad. The following night, Cooper set another mark by becoming the youngest player to score 35 points in a game in a victory over the L.A. Clippers. He also became the first teenager in NBA history to score 30 or more points in three consecutive games.

Is Cooper Flagg Religious?

Cooper Flagg has not made any public statements about his religious beliefs or what part spirituality plays in his life. While people may look at him and his character traits – work ethic, concern for others, and humility, to name a few – he has not expressly commented on his beliefs.

Of course, this does not mean that spirituality is unimportant to him; it simply means that he hasn't spoken publicly about that part of his life.
