Aubrey Graham, better known by his middle name, Drake, is a rapper and singer/songwriter from Ontario, Canada. As a child, he acted on the popular Canadian television series Degrassi: The Next Generation, until 2009. Throughout his time on the show, he worked on his own music, releasing his first mixtape in 2006, Room for Improvement.
Drake’s parents divorced when he was 5 years old, and he was raised by his Jewish mother, including having a bar mitzvah at age 13. He credits some of his success to his childhood experiences; while he lived in an affluent neighborhood, he dealt with the traumatic experiences of watching his father’s arrest and growing up in a single-parent household.
