Tucker Carlson is a conservative political commentator who, since 2023, has hosted Tucker on X and The Tucker Carlson Show. He previously anchored the nightly political program Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News from 2016 until his departure from the network in 2023.

Tucker Carlson was born Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson on May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, California. He grew up in Southern California after his parents divorced when he was young. His father, Dick Carlson, worked as a journalist and later served in government roles, including as director of Voice of America. Carlson’s mother left the family when he was a child, and he was raised primarily by his father and stepmother, Patricia Swanson, an heiress to the Swanson frozen food fortune.

Carlson attended St. George’s School, a private boarding school in Rhode Island, before enrolling at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated in 1991 with a degree in history. His upbringing was largely secular, though he was baptized in the Episcopal Church.

Carlson began his career in journalism as a fact-checker for Policy Review, a conservative journal. He later moved into reporting and opinion writing, contributing to publications such as The Weekly Standard, The New York Times Magazine, and Reader’s Digest. His transition into television came in the early 2000s, when he joined CNN as a co-host of the debate program Crossfire. His tenure there helped establish him as a recognizable conservative voice.

Carlson married Susan Andrews in 1991. The couple met while attending St. George’s School; Andrews is the daughter of an Episcopal priest, a connection that has influenced Carlson’s continued ties to the church. Together, they have four children.

He has lived in various locations, including Washington, D.C., and Florida, and is known for maintaining a close-knit family life.
