Ted Cruz is an American politician and attorney. He is a devout Christian and often speaks of the role of God in daily life, the United States, and for families. Cruz is most known for being the junior U.S. senator for Texas since 2013 and his run in the 2016 presidential election. He was born in Calgary, Canada, on Dec. 22, 1970, but mainly grew up in Houston, Texas. In the late 1950s, His father, Rafael, immigrated to the United States from Cuba. Cruz’s parents separated for a period, but they got back together after Rafael became interested in becoming a Christian. In 1975, Rafael officially was born-again and became a preacher. Rafael is currently a pastor at a church in Dallas. Cruz was raised primarily in Houston, Texas. The conservative politician grew up attending Evangelical private schools, which fostered his strong faith in God and his parents’ values.

Cruz went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at Princeton University, then went on to Harvard Law School to obtain his J.D. Cruz was an adviser for George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign following law school. In 2003, he was made the solicitor general of Texas until 2008. In 2012, the politician won the election to the U.S. Senate seat after gaining support from the Tea Party. In 2016, he announced his intent to run for President at Liberty University. Cruz was re-elected to his Senate seat in 2018.

The politician has always made a point to thank God and express his faith along each step of the way of his career. “Believing is not simply sitting aside and doing a polite little golf clap,” Cruz said in front of a church congregation at First Baptist Dallas. “Believing is putting everything you have, your heart, soul, life, putting everything (into) standing for what’s right.”
