David Packard Corenswet was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 8, 1993. Faith and acting run in the family.

His father, John Corenswet, was from a “prominent Jewish family” in New Orleans. However, before his passion for translating the law took place, the elder Corenswet translated screenplays to reality on stage in New York City off-Broadway. If his middle name sounds peculiar, that’s because it belongs to the surname of his maternal grandfather, Edward Packard, author and creator of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" book series.

Staying near home, Corenswet attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated from the Shipley School before transferring to Juilliard for his BFA in drama in 2016. While in school, his first big break in acting came with the self-created and -produced web series "Moe and Jerryweather."

While working for seen and uncredited roles in TV series such as "Instinct," "House of Cards," and "The Tap," Corenswet was given the flexibility to lead in the Netflix series "Hollywood" as Jack Costello. Then came more substantial roles in "Pearl," "The Politician," and "Twisters."

However, one of the most notable leading roles in his career was "Superman" in the initial offering from James Gunn's DC Studios. The casting came four years after he was interviewed in *Entertainment Weekly*, saying his dream role would have been as the flying Kryptonian.

David Corenswet’s Religious Beliefs

Corenswet is known for being secretive about his private life and almost reclusive about the media. In March 2023, he married his longtime girlfriend, Julia Best Warner. With devout Jewish parents and falling in love with an equally devout Catholic woman, they had an interfaith wedding ceremony at Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans.

According to Julie Vanderbrook, Immaculate Conception's wedding coordinator, it was the first time in over 20 years that the church included a "chuppah," a traditional Jewish wedding canopy. Combined with conventional Catholic sacramental acts, the wedding also included the Jewish breaking of the glass with a Rabbi yelling, "Mazel Tov!"

“The bride and groom were just so determined to intersperse the Jewish traditions with the Catholic traditions, which to me just enhanced the beauty and the strength of both faiths,” Vanderbrook said.

His parents are well-known in the Jewish and legal communities. The Corenswet clan has long ties to Temple Sinai, Louisiana’s oldest Reform synagogue, founded in 1870.

Although David Corenswet grew up in Philadelphia, many family members still attend Temple Sinai, including his uncle Jay, a past congregation president.
