- Fun Fact:
Cher's maiden name is Sarkisian, and Cher is short for Cherilyn.
Legend and icon Cher began as half of the entertainment husband-and-wife duo Sonny & Cher with I Got You Babe in 1965. Her vocal range and her outlandish fashion sense made her a brand, and she's been pleasing crowds in the decades since.
After she and Sonny Bono divorced in 1975, she launched a solo "comeback" effort, though she was already still a major player in the game. A residency show in Las Vegas, major roles in feature Hollywood films, and chart-topping albums continued to cement Cher as one of the all-time greats.
Even after their divorce, Sonny and Cher remained friends, and raised their child together, famously known for a gender reassignment surgery, supported by both parents. Following Sonny's death in a skiing accident in the late 1990's, she delivered a very loving eulogy at his funeral.
