Jude Bellingham is an English professional soccer player who currently plays for Real Madrid in La Liga, Spain's top league. He also plays for the English men's national team and is part of its 2026 World Cup squad. Jude was born in Stourbridge, England; his father has Irish ancestry, and his mother's family is of Kenyan descent.
Jude began playing for Birmingham City's U-8 team and later became the youngest-ever player to appear in a match for the senior club, at 16 years old in August 2019. He appeared in 44 games across all competitions for Birmingham City that year, playing in the League Championship, the second-highest level of English soccer.
Following that season, Bellingham joined German club Borussia Dortmund on a transfer from Birmingham. Over the next three seasons (from 2020-21 through 2022-23), he was a fixture in the Dortmund lineup, appearing in a total of 132 games. He also scored 24 goals in those three seasons, establishing himself as a rising star in the sport. He was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2022-23.
In June 2023, Jude joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on a marquee transfer from Borussia Dortmund, signing a six-year contract. Establishing himself as a generational talent, Bellingham amassed a spectacular 140 appearances and scored 46 goals across his opening two seasons with the club. This production was all the more remarkable given a recurring left shoulder dislocation injury tracking back to late 2023; he finally underwent corrective surgery in the summer of 2025. Despite initial medical estimates projecting a grueling 10-to-12-week recovery period, Jude defied expectations by returning ahead of schedule, immediately reclaiming his stellar, dominant form in the heart of Real Madrid's midfield.
Jude began playing international soccer for England's youth development teams at a remarkably early age, debuting for the U-15 team in December 2016 at just 13 years old. He continued to rapidly rise through the junior ranks, earning a call-up to the senior men's squad as a 17-year-old in 2020. He represented England at the delayed UEFA Euro 2020 tournament in 2021, and later scored his first senior international goal in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Iran. In 2024, Jude was a central figure in England's run to the European Championship final against Spain, and he continues to serve as a cornerstone of the English squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Although some online resources indicate that Jude is a Christian, it does not appear that he has made any public statements to that effect. (Interestingly, other sites claim that he is Muslim, based on his comments relating to friends or teammates who are Muslim.) However, Jude is involved in charitable work, specifically with the Miche Bora School in Mombasa, Kenya. A UK charitable organization, the Mustard Seed Project, operates this school. (This should not be confused with an organization in the United States, also called the Mustard Seed Project, which is based in the state of Washington.) The school's website states that its mission is to provide "quality education and a feeding program for 360 poor African children aged 3 to 15 years."
Jude has also served as a global ambassador for Laureus Sport for Good, an organization that seeks to "use the power of sport to transform lives" in over 40 countries and territories worldwide. Of course, the fact that someone does charitable work is not a sure indicator of faith in Christ. While Jude Bellingham is clearly involved in impressive charitable efforts, he has not publicly spoken about personal faith in Christ.
