Born in Wales to English parents, Christian Bales spent much of his childhood living throughout Europe, a nomadic lifestyle that he says contributed to his career choice.

Bale's first acting gig was at age 8, in a commercial for fabric softener. At age 17, he moved with his father to California, and more acting jobs followed, followed by the accolades from his performances.

Bale currently lives in California with his wife and children, and applied for U.S. citizenship in 2010.
