Tim Allen, born Timothy Alan Dick, is an American actor and comedian. He was born on June 13, 1953, in Denver, Colorado. He lost his father in a fatal car accident when he was eleven years old. Allen’s mother married again and moved her children to Birmingham, MI, to join her new husband and his three children. Being raised outside of Detroit with his siblings, Allen gained a passion for cars. After graduating high school, Allen attended Central Michigan University and, in 1974, transferred to Western Michigan University. In 1976, he finished his undergrad degree, majoring in communications with a minor in philosophy and design.

After his comedian career kicked off, he received a Cable Ace Award for Best Performance in a Comedy Special for his performance at the Just for Laughs International Comedy Festival. In partnership with Disney, Allen started the hit show “Home Improvement” in 1991. After the sitcom kicked off, Allen won nine People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Male Television Performer beginning in 1992. The successful show ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999. He also received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

In 1995, His breakout film role was in the movie “The Santa Clause,” which resulted in a highly demanded sequel. At the same time, he published his first novel, “Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man.” He released his second book, “I’m Not Really Here” the following year. He furthered his successful movie career by starring in many popular films such as “Galaxy Quest,” the “Toy Story” films, “Christmas with the Kranks,” “For Richer or Poorer,” and “Shaggy Dog.” Tim Allen has been very outspoken about his Christian faith. He was raised as Episcopalian and says today that he considers himself very religious and an “intellectual Christian.”
