Often called the best NBA player of all-time, Kareem Abdul-Jabar was born in Manhattan and raised as a Catholic. A natural athlete, his superiority on the court was evident from an early age. He played under John Wooden at UCLA on three National Championship winning teams. He was known by his birth name, Lewis Alcindor until his conversion to Islam, where he joined the Nation of Islam until later declaring that he was a Suni Muslim. He now serves as a US Cultural Ambassador, representing the African American population in international meetings. Photo courtesy of Cliff1066.
