Amanda Anisimova is an American professional tennis player originally from New Jersey. She had a successful junior career, ranked as high as number 2 in the world. She won the 2017 U.S. Open girls' singles title. Amanda started playing tennis at the age of five after watching her older sister, Maria, play. Amanda's family moved from New Jersey to Florida in 2004 so that Maria and Amanda could access additional training and coaching.

While playing in junior tournaments, Amanda also received wildcard entries to various senior professional tournaments. She reached the final of an ITF tournament in Curitiba, Brazil, in her senior-level tournament main draw. She also received a wildcard entry to the 2017 French Open. She lost in the first round; however, she was the youngest person to play in the main draw of the French Open since 2005. Later that year, Amanda won her first pro title on the ITF Pro Circuit.

In early 2018, Amanda received a wildcard entry into the main draw of the WTA Indian Wells tournament due to her semifinal run at the previous week's Challenger Series event in Indian Wells. She made the fourth round of the WTA Tour tournament that week, becoming the youngest player to reach that level since 2005. She then received a wildcard entry to the Miami Open, but an injury in her opening match forced her to withdraw from the tournament. The injury forced her to stop playing for four months. By the end of the 2018 season, Amanda was ranked in the top 100 of the WTA rankings.

In 2019, Amanda started strong with a run to the fourth round at the Australian Open. She did not continue that strong play, failing to win more than one match in any of her next four tournaments. However, the clay court season brought success. Amanda won the Copa Colsanitas in Colombia for her first WTA title. She followed up on that victory with a semifinal run at the French Open. Unfortunately, injuries and her father's passing led to a marked downturn over the second half of that year.

The following seasons brought continued improvement and success, including her second title at the Melbourne tournament before the Australian Open in 2022. However, by May 2023, Amanda announced that she was taking a break from tennis to focus on her mental health and wellness.

Amanda returned to tennis at the Auckland Open in 2024 and followed that up by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open. Later that year, she reached the finals of the Canadian Open before losing to Jessica Pegula in 3 sets. That result raised her ranking back into the top 50. She continued her return in 2025, winning the Qatar Ladies Open in February. She continued her good play throughout the major season, reaching the fourth round of the French Open and the finals of both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. In 2025, she also won the China Open. As a result, her ranking rose to number 4 in the world. This year, she has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the third round of both the French Open and Wimbledon, as she prepares for the U.S. Open. She is currently ranked #28.

Amanda Anisimova's Religious Beliefs

Although some people have surmised that Amanda is a Russian Orthodox believer because of her family's Russian heritage, she has not made any public statement about her religious beliefs. She enjoys painting and has sold her artwork, donating the proceeds to organizations that support people facing mental health challenges, hunger, and child abuse. Amanda has also supported and donated to causes assisting Ukrainians affected by the war with Russia.
