Now, with a different level of awareness, I will be mindful and give more thought and meaning to what I put in my mouth and what comes out of it.

A bunch of years ago I stumbled upon Nancy, the star of Ernie Bushmiller’s comic strip of the same name, “Nancy.” As I remember it, Nancy was pictured with a box of cookies in one hand and a hammer in the other. Her aunt was yelling from another room. “Don’t spoil your appetite. Dinner will be ready soon.” To which Nancy replied, “I’m only eating the crumbs.”

This morning, as I gather my ‘stuff’ (camera, gift for mom, healthy snacks) to head off into the sunrise to visit my 94 year-young mother, I am reminded of this video that I shot 2 short years ago. Not much has changed. My mother still sits in her apartment, doing her solo act. She did finally stop driving herself to and fro the supermarket this past year. She said it was like having a limb chopped off, but she felt it necessary. Her reflexes aren’t exactly what they used to be, and she certainly didn’t want to put anyone else in danger. Brava that she came to this conclusion on her own!
As we all know, Mother’s Day is fast approaching! This year, in addition to giving my mother a homemade card (and a gift, of course), I thought I would send a mother’s day card to my children, too! Why not? It’s an opportunity for us to share our thoughts on what it’s like to be a mother!

They are not stick thin thighs like you see in the magazines; they are not air-brushed thighs. After an interesting conversation that was filled with aha moments, I decided to share a few tips on how to love yourself, love your thighs.

Be forewarned!!! Orange is a stimulant. It stimulates emotions, thoughts, conversation and even appetite. With Halloween upon us and its pumpkins piled high at every green market, perched on every doorstep, along with those mountains of haunting little orange devils called candy corn found at every turn of the supermarket, it’s no wonder we’re in danger of caving-in to the call of the candy-filled Jack-O-Lantern.
Studies in the US show that pumpkin seeds may help reduce hormone damage to the prostate, which in turn lessens the risk of developing prostate cancer. They’ve been used in certain areas of Europe to treat learning disorders. In China, pumpkin seeds are used to ward off depression, and pumpkin seed oil has been used for treatment of prostatitis.
