There’s a Solar Eclipse on Tuesday, occurring at 19 degrees Pisces. People tend to get a little worked up about Eclipses, and normally I find myself calming people down about their potential effects. This Solar Eclipse is pretty charged up though, involving Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto to one degree or another, and because of its location it will have some very distinct generational effects.

So: I’m taking two different approaches to this Eclipse. In Part One, I’m going to talk about the nature of this Eclipse itself, and in Part Two I’ll provide details so you can all “play along at home” with your own chart and see how (and when) it might affect you. But first, a little about the nature of Pisces…

***

When I was a kid there was this song I loved: The Unicorn Song, originally written by Shel Silverstein. Here, have a listen…

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn…

The essential nature of Pisces is rather unicorn-like in some ways. Dreamy, mystical, both familiar and unfamiliar, and a little bit… shall we say, impractical? This of course completely ignores the fact that such bold characters as George Washington and first woman in space Valentina Tereshkova were Pisces. That’s the thing with stereotypes… all it takes is one report of Justin Bieber on sizzurp and there goes all the good stuff about your Sign.

That somewhat-impractical quality of Pisces can have surprisingly practical applications. Odds are good that if you have any interest at all in astrology, you’re also familiar with the concept of “manifestation” and “setting intentions.” Me personally? I’ve yet to manifest my own starship command like I’ve always wanted, but “setting intentions,” done properly, can really get results. For best results, astrologically speaking, a New Moon is an excellent time to sit down and really put some thought and energy into the matter into what you want to change in your life… and ultimately, a Solar Eclipse is a New Moon on steroids.

So: make the effort to think up a short, practical and achievable list of things you want to change in your life, and throw some intellectual and spiritual weight behind them this Tuesday… ideally around 8:54 PM Eastern/5:54 PM Pacific, when the Eclipse is exact.

Remember: be practical and choose achievable goals. Don’t end up like the unicorns…

And Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them silly unicorns…

The ark started moving, and it drifted with the tide,
And the unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried.
And the waters come down and sort of flooded them away,
That’s why you never seen a unicorn to this very day.
