Angels are not the authors of salvation, but they are sent by God to help believers. If you carefully watch for them, you might be able to see their loving hand on your life.
Most of us have heard of the concept of a guardian angel. A guardian angel is supposed to be an angel that specifically looks after you. This is a nice concept, but it is not true. God is the One who watches over us (Psalm 121:4). However, He also sends His angels to watch over us, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14).
1. You Are Being Protected
God protects us from all harm, yet He can also send His angels to protect us. Michael is an archangel who protects us and Gabriel is a messenger angel who has provided messages to humans in the past. Whenever you feel you are being divinely protected, it is because God is watching over you and He may have also sent an angel to watch over you. While it is interesting to think about angels, you must never idolize them; they are simply doing what God tells them to do (Exodus 20:4).
All praise, glory, and honor belongs to God (Revelation 4:11). Choose to give God praise when He protects you from getting sick, being hit in a car accident, or ensures the power doesn't go out during a dreadful storm. God is always protecting you and His angels are faithfully obeying His instructions.
2. You Feel an Angel’s Warm Embrace
Many believers have felt a warm embrace during trying days. Perhaps you have also felt this warm hug in your own life. While there is no biblical proof to support this claim, it could be God’s angels are being sent to provide you with comfort. God is the God of all comfort (Romans 15:13), therefore, He is ultimately the One providing you with comfort, care, and serenity.
3. An Inner Sense of Peace
Peace is impossible apart from God. Jesus tells us, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). Jesus has already given you His peace, but you must embrace it. It could be God’s angels are encouraging you to accept His peace today.
All the angels in the world could not provide you with lasting peace. Only the Lord Himself can bring your soul the peace that it needs. If you have felt an inner stirring for peace, ask the Lord to surround you with His peace. Go to Him in prayer with a heart of thanksgiving and present your requests to Him. God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
4. You Are Reminded of the Love of God
The love of God is abounding in your life and sometimes, you may be able to see the slightest glimpse of an angel watching over you in the process. As mentioned in Hebrews 1:14, angels are ministering spirits sent by God. It could be one of their responsibilities is to observe humans and talk with God about their findings.
When you are down, you need to run to the Lord, not to an angel. An angel does not love you like God does. It is the Lord Jesus Christ who died for you, not an angel (John 3:16-17). Angels answer to God and so do we, therefore, never worship angels or feel as though they are superior over God. God is the One who blesses, protects, saves, and provides for us. Angels would encourage us to turn to the Lord and accept His love.
5. An Encouragement to Study the Bible
Perhaps you have suddenly felt the inner stirring to pick up your Bible again. This is probably the work of the Holy Spirit and angels could assist Him. Angels want you to learn more about God, but one cannot be dogmatic to say that angels place inner stirring within us. The Holy Spirit normally urges us to seek out time with Jesus in prayer and Bible study.
Angels are remarkable creatures, but they are not God. Paul warns, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen” (Romans 1:25). Paul also says, “Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind” (Colossians 2:18).
Angels have many wonderful responsibilities, but they are not our sole protectors. God is the One who watches over us and surrounds us with love, hope, and peace. It is wonderful to appreciate the angels, but never worship them. All worship, praise, and honor belongs to God alone.
It can be difficult to tell when angels are watching over you, but many believers have felt their warm embrace, felt a sense of protection, been encouraged to study the Bible, been blessed with God’s peace, and felt the stirring to reflect upon God’s love.
