Los Angeles-George Harrison has probably done more than any single popular cultural figure during these past few decades to spread spiritual consciousness around the world.

He transferred his perceptions of a state of being beyond and higher than ordinary consciousness into the words and music that altered millions of lives.

How much do you know about the spiritual side of the Fab Four?

Along the way he became the friend and devoted servant of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of the Hare Krishna movement. George's relationship with the Hare Krishnas was deep and long abiding since he met them in the late sixties.

During his last days, Krishna devotees were by his side and he left his body to the sounds of the Hare Krishna mantra.

The devotees of Prabhupada are eternally grateful to George Harrison for his boundless services to all living beings.

From Anuttama Dasa, ISKCON's National Communications Director:

George Harrison was a deeply private and spiritually committed person. He had a very close friendship with the founder of the Hare Krishna movement, Srila Prahupada, and he maintained personal friendships with several Hare Krishna devotees for over 30 years.

Krishna devotees around the world are very saddened by George Harrison's his passing away. Many communities worldwide will be holding special memorial services for him this weekend.

George had great appreciation for eastern philosophy including the Vaishnava tradition (devotion to Lord Krishna).

The Krishna society, or the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is very grateful for the many contributions offered by George. His music enthused millions around the world to seek God and Truth, and he introduced whole generations to the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, or prayer. In the 1970's he donated to Krishna devotees the Bhaktivedanta Manor, the main Krishna temple in the UK. And, he served as a personal model of quiet integrity throughout his life.
